Quick answers to the questions people ask most. Still stuck? Write to us, a real person answers.

Where is my diary stored?

On your phone, inside Scriptum. There is no account and no server, so we never have a copy of what you write.

On an iPhone with iCloud Drive switched on, Scriptum also keeps one copy in your own iCloud Drive, in a folder called Scriptum. That copy belongs to your Apple account, not to us.

How do I back up my diary or move it to a new phone?

iPhone: keep Keep a copy in iCloud switched on in Scriptum's Settings. On your new iPhone, open Scriptum and choose Restore from iCloud.

Any phone: in Settings, choose Save a copy of your journal and keep the file somewhere safe. On the new phone, use Import a journal and pick that file.

Android can restore an app's data when you reinstall, but that is neither guaranteed nor immediate, so save a copy before you change or reset your phone.

I forgot my passcode. What can I do?

If you set up Face ID, Touch ID or your fingerprint, use that: it opens the diary and lets you choose a new code.

Otherwise the only way past the lock is Erase and start again, which deletes every page. We can't reset the code for you, because it never leaves your phone. If you have an iCloud copy or a saved file, you can bring your pages back after starting again.

I paid for Scriptum Complete. How do I get it back?

Open any Complete feature, for example the lock in Settings, and tap Restore purchases at the bottom of the offer. Use the same Apple ID or Google account you bought it with.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple and Google, so you cancel them there. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Scriptum.
Android: Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Scriptum.

Refunds also go through Apple or Google, under their own policies.

What is free, and what does Scriptum Complete add?

Writing your diary is free: a page every day, a photo on each page, your mood, the calendar, search, the daily question, reminders, and saving a copy of everything.

Complete adds the lock, voice notes, speaking instead of typing, drawing, text formatting, Clean Up, up to ten photos a page, more colours and more sticker packs.

Can I bring my entries from Day One or Daylio?

Yes. In Settings, choose Import from Day One or Daylio. From Day One, export as JSON and choose the .zip. From Daylio, export your entries as CSV. Scriptum never replaces a page you already have.

How do I delete everything?

Settings can delete every entry. Deleting the app removes everything on the phone, including your passcode. On iPhone, the iCloud copy stays in iCloud Drive until you delete the Scriptum folder there yourself.
